INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING – SUNY BINGHAMTON

The Industrial Engineering Dual Diploma Program, which was launched for student admission in the 2021–2022 academic year, is jointly conducted with our current program partner, SUNY Binghamton University.

General information about the program offered under the Faculty of Management at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) can be found below.

ITU FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT

Established in 1977 as the Faculty of Management Engineering, today’s Faculty of Management includes the Departments of Management Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and the Department of Economics, which was founded in 2013.

In the documents prepared for the 50th anniversary of the Republic and the 200th anniversary of ITU, the Faculty of Industry was mentioned among the faculties planned to be established on the ITU Ayazağa Campus between 1972 and 1984. The first decision regarding the Industrial Engineering Department, which was planned to operate under this faculty, was taken at the General Assembly of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering on May 8, 1968. The admission of students to the Industrial Engineering branch was also discussed during the meetings of the Faculty Assembly and later in the minutes of the ITU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Professors’ Board in 1969.

As a result of the discussions held during this period, it was decided that the opening of the Industrial Engineering branch would not be possible due to the inability to fulfill the necessary regulatory arrangements and staffing requirements needed to grant the appropriate title to graduates. Therefore, it was decided that the branch would begin education parallel to other branches during the university’s transition to a dual education system (Bachelor’s + Master’s).

With the transition of ITU to a four-year education system in the 1969–1970 academic year, the conditions established in 1968 enabled the previously planned Industrial Branch under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering to begin education with the admission of 30 students. In the 1973–1974 academic year, graduate education was also initiated.

After providing education on the Ayazağa Campus for a period, the Faculty of Management moved to the Maçka Campus in 1984.

The Faculty of Management, whose academic staff was formed by faculty members from the Faculty of Basic Sciences and the Industrial Engineering Department of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, continues successfully today to offer undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral education in the Departments of Management Engineering and Industrial Engineering.

About the Program

Through the dual diploma program in Industrial Engineering conducted jointly between our university and SUNY Binghamton University, students will complete their 1st and 3rd years at ITU and their 2nd and 4th years at Binghamton University. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be entitled to receive two separate four-year bachelor’s degrees, one from ITU and one from Binghamton University.

Students who complete their first year at ITU with a minimum GPA of 2.00 may continue their education at Binghamton University. The same GPA requirement applies during their second year at Binghamton and third year at ITU.

The quota for Turkish Republic citizens admitted to the program has been determined as 30 students. Applicants will be placed in the program by ÖSYM according to their YKS Numerical scores.

Candidates whose ranking in the Numerical score type exceeds 130,000 will not be admitted to the program. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be eligible to select the program, and even if they do so, their preferences will not be taken into consideration during the placement process.
